Focal motor seizures occur and are initially sporadic but the frequency rapidly increases in the months after seizure onset. Focal clonic seizures are common (involving arms or eyelids), behavioral arrest with or without head and eye version may occur. Migration of a focal seizure with involvement of multiple independent cortical regions randomly but consecutively in the same single seizure or status epilepticus event is a mandatory criteria for this syndrome. Status epilepticus is common.
Seizures with prominent autonomic features may occur.
