ATYPICAL ABSENCE SEIZURE

Background/Interictal/Activation

Please refer to specific syndromes and etiologies in which this seizure type occurs.

Ictal

Slow (<2.5 Hz) generalized spike-and-wave discharges accompany atypical absences. These may be facilitated by hyperventilation, however hyperventilation may be difficult to achieve in children with intellectual impairment.
