PATTERN OF INHERITANCE

This depends on the underlying cause.

KNOWN GENES

Chromosomal abnormalities account for 50% of cases, and include Angelman Syndrome and Wolf Hirshhorn Syndrome. Gene abnormalities may also be found. Structural brain abnormalities and metabolic etiologies may have underlying specific genetic etiologies.

FAMILY HISTORY OF SEIZURES/EPILEPSY

A family history of seizures/epilepsy is found in one fifth of cases.
